Historic Building of Former Banco Nación.

2010

National Competition of Ideas for Refunctionalization and Enlarging the Historic Building of Former Banco Nación.
Headquarters of the Credit Union Insurance Department of the Province of Tucumán and Multi-Purpose Cultural Center of San Miguel de Tucumán.

Organized by: Colegio de Arquitectos de la Provincia de Tucumán.

Promoter: Government of the Province of Tucumán and Credit Union of the Province of Tucumán.

Location: San Miguel de Tucumán. Tucumán, Argentina.

The project consists of refunctionalizing an institutional building of academic composition and language, which also needs the addition of new uses.

With the aim of respecting its value in terms of what it represents in the urban setting, the proposal for the new building consists of a neutral container.

This new object integrates into the heritage building and appears as a sort of “lighthouse,” a landmark that gives the city a central character, emphasized by the illuminated transparency provided by the glass material, which is more evident at night.

The integration of its functional parts is realized by creating an empty space working as a link, based on replicating the ground plan of the historic building.
